Located on the terminal’s departures level of Terminal 2, The Lee Wagener Art Gallery at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will close its doors temporarily to travelers. Dawn Roe’s Last exhibition “Airfield Studies” will run until the end of October. Roe’s exhibition consists of a grouping of photographic transparencies that reflect the development and construction of the newly-opened 8,000-foot long south runway.
The Lee Wagener gallery has been a platform to some of the local’s finest artist who include Ruben Ubiera, John Bowen, Andrea Huffman and Virgina Fifield have all showcased their work the last three years.
If you’re visiting the Ft. Lauderdale’s airport (FLL) after the exhibit closes you will still be able to enjoy the 40 pieces of public art dotted around the airport’s terminals and car rental center.
Last year, out of the the 23.5 million passengers 3.5 million used Terminal 2. Artist have the opportunity to sell their work to airport visitors. Their artwork is generally chosen though a “Call to the Artist” or “Artist in Residence” program.
The gallery is supported by the cultural division’s Public Art & Design Program and Broward County Aviation Department, the airport’s operator.
